VOTING / POLITICS

Question: Do 2x2s vote in most areas of the world? What is the general attitude regarding voting among the friends? What about the workers? Do they vote in elections?

Just for the record - in Australia, voting is compulsory, and everyone
must be enrolled in the electoral role from 18 years old. So all the
2x2s just vote as commanded by law (As far as I know). I never recall
hearing politics discussed much. I don't know what the workers do. 6/97

When I went into the work I wanted to continue voting for I felt that was
right. I was told that once I went into the work my vote was ONLY to be
cast with my prayers that GOD'S will would be done. THAT, I was told by my
companion, was how workers voted. 6/97

In New Zealand we (2x2s) all voted, at least all those that wanted to, in fact reference would be made from the 'platform' to the theme that it was our duty to vote. Also, honouring the Queen, I grew up believing was the right 2x2 thing to do. After the meeting one night a well respected 2x2 was talking with us and it was generally understood that as professing people we were to vote for the National government. National was for the more affluent as compared to Labour, the working class party. 6/97

I don’t recall the friends ever discussing politics or current affairs much either. Some voted but it was no big deal. 6/97

Regarding voting, all of my life I can remember my folks going to vote, my
dad doesn't anymore, but my mom still does. My aunt has been in the work for
over 50 years, and she still votes. The worker here in Portland voted this
last November, probably earlier also.

I have never heard it frowned on, my relatives and friends since I can
remember would comment every now and then about voting, more often when
elections were near. I remember laughing with my aunt and uncle, she is the
Democrat and he is a Republican. All my relatives vote, and always have.

I remember how excited I was when I could vote for the first time. It was
the year 1972, and I voted for Tricky Dick, Richard Milhous Nixon. I was
so proud of myself, don't know how many people admit that today that they
voted for him. LOL

I have heard workers and friends say that it is their responsibility to vote
because if they pray about their voting, and through the Holy Spirit it would
be revealed to them just how to vote as to ensure our country of continued
freedom, and that the ones in power would be the ones that the Lord wants
there.

Myself, I had moved around a lot in the last 20 years that I didn't always get
registered to vote. 6/97

While I was growing up most of the "friends" didn't vote here. I don't
know if the workers told them not to. Some are voting now--when I was
growing up the truth was fairly new and we had the Jardines etc so maybe
they were told not to vote. Well I shouldn't say the truth was fairly
new for me but my grandparents and they are who I grew up with. 6/97

As for politics, I don’t recall the friends talking about any political matters but I suppose that isn’t the case everywhere in the "Truth." Like just every other issue we’ve discussed here there seems to be no set pattern for what the friends do or don’t do or believe or don’t believe!

I don’t think very many of the friends are lawyers—I’ve only heard of one. That career can have a political slant. I do know one lady who was on a local board of education when she was professing. But other that her I don’t recall anyone being in the political arena. 6/97
