{"id":147,"date":"2014-08-20T01:21:45","date_gmt":"2014-08-20T01:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tellingthetruth.info\/recipearls\/?page_id=147"},"modified":"2014-10-09T21:26:50","modified_gmt":"2014-10-09T21:26:50","slug":"dressings","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tellingthetruth.info\/recipearls\/salads\/dressings\/","title":{"rendered":"~ Dressings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>POPPYSEED DRESSING (for Fruit Salad)\u00a0\u00a0 (Helen Corbitt)<br \/>\n***FAMILY FAVORITE**<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1-1\/2 c sugar<br \/>\n2 t dry mustard<br \/>\n2 t salt<br \/>\n2\/3 c vinegar<br \/>\n1-1\/2 t onion juice [can use store bought onion juice or make it by blending an onion, then straining it.]<br \/>\n2 c oil (NOT olive oil)<br \/>\n3 T poppy seeds<\/p>\n<p>Mix sugar, mustard, salt and vinegar in saucepan til sugar is dissolved.<br \/>\nAdd onion juice and stir thoroughly.<br \/>\nPour into blender or mixer bowl and add oil slowly, beating constantly til thick.<br \/>\nAdd poppy seeds and beat for a few more minutes. Store in cool place.<br \/>\nNOTE: If dressing separates, pour off clear part and start over, adding poppy seed mixture slowly. It will separate only if it gets too hot or too cold.<br \/>\nMakes 3-1\/2 cups.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>HEAVENLY ORANGE SALAD DRESSING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>COMBINE:<br \/>\n1 c\u00a0 vegetable oil<br \/>\n6 oz. can frozen Orange Juice<br \/>\n\u00bd c water<br \/>\n\u00bd c rice wine vinegar<br \/>\n2 t basil leaves<\/p>\n<p>Dressing keeps well in refrigerator for a long time.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>GOOD SEASONS ITALIAN DRESSING MIX<\/strong><br \/>\n[makes about 1\/2 c mix]<\/p>\n<p>1 T garlic salt<br \/>\n1 T onion powder<br \/>\n1 T sugar<br \/>\n1 T parsley<br \/>\n1 t pepper<br \/>\n1 t basil<br \/>\n1\/2 t Thyme<br \/>\n1\/4 t Celery salt<br \/>\n2T Oregano<br \/>\n2T salt<br \/>\n1\/4 c cider vinegar<br \/>\n2\/3 c oil<br \/>\n2T water<br \/>\n2T Dry Mix (above recipe)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>HIDDEN VALLEY RANCH DRESSING MIX<\/strong><br \/>\nMakes (42) 1 Tablespoon servings.<\/p>\n<p>15 saltines, blended to powder<br \/>\n2 c dry minced parsley flakes<br \/>\n1\/2 c dry minced onion<br \/>\n1T dry dill weed<br \/>\n1\/4 c onion salt<br \/>\n1\/4 c onion powder<br \/>\n1\/4 c garlic salt<br \/>\n1\/4 c garlic powder<\/p>\n<p>To blended saltines, add parsley, onions, dill weed and blend again til powdered.<br \/>\nStir in rest of ingredients.<br \/>\nStore in container with tight-fitting lid at room temperature for 1 year.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>BLUE CHEESE WEDGE SALAD DRESSING\u00a0 (Lone Star Steakhouse)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Buttermilk<br \/>\nCanola Oil<br \/>\nGarlic powder<br \/>\nSalt<br \/>\nPepper<br \/>\nBleu cheese<br \/>\nDash sugar&#8211;optional.\u00a0 (Chess doesnt like sugar in it.)<\/p>\n<p>Will be runny.\u00a0 Serve over wedge of lettuce.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>BASIC VINAIGRETTE SALAD DRESSING<\/strong><br \/>\nMakes 1\/2 to 2\/3 cup dressing which is ample for 6 1-cup servings of tossed greens.<\/p>\n<p>2-3 T vinegar or fresh lemon juice or a combination of both<br \/>\n1\/2 t dry mustard or<br \/>\n1 t Dijon mustard (optional)<br \/>\n1\/2 t salt;<br \/>\nFreshly ground pepper to taste<br \/>\n6 &#8211; 8 T olive oil or vegetable oil or a combination of both<br \/>\nNote: Measurements can be varied to your taste.<\/p>\n<p>Combine vinegar or lemon juice, optional mustard, salt and pepper in a small bowl; whisk until salt has dissolved. Beat in-oil slowly.<\/p>\n<p>OR combine vinegar or lemon juice, salt &amp; pep in a covered jar &amp; shake vigorously til well combined; add oil &amp; shake again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VARIATIONS:<\/strong><br \/>\nOne clove minced garlic added to the Basic Vinaigrette or any of the variations gives a robust flavor. For just a hint of garlic flavor, crush the clove and add; remove before pouring dressing over greens.<br \/>\nOne T minced shallot or green onion is a delicious addition to serve over mixed greens or citrus fruits.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh or dried salad herbs added in proportions you want give an oppor\u00actunity to experiment.
