1904 "The Derry People" The first picture published in connection with the performance of the strange sect of "Dippers" or "Pilgrims" that has arisen in Fermanagh. The river in the picture is the Ballinamallard, is which the curious dippers perform their ablations. The snapshot from which the picture is drawn, was taken late in the evening, and just before the 'dipping operations' commenced. The people on the bank are sightseers waiting for the "dippers" to come on. October breezes are not favorable to the new cult, and many of the "Dippers" are now suffering from severe colds. - Cherie Kropp-Ehrig
